Adductor Complex
Mnemonic: PBLMG "Peanut Butter Leaves Me Gassy"
Pectineus
Adductor brevis
Adductor longus
Pectineus
Brevis
Longus
Magnus
Gracilis
This mnemonic describes the adductor complex from proximal to distal (mostly).
Pectineus
- origin
- pectineal line on superior pubic ramus
- insertion
- from lesser trochanter to pectineal line of medial lip of linea aspera
- concentric action
- accelerates hip adduction
- accelerates hip flexion
- accelerates hip external rotation
- eccentric action
- decelerates hip abduction
- decelerates hip extension
- decelerates hip internal rotation
- isometric action
- stabilizes LPHC (produces APT)
- innervation
- femoral nerve (sometimes obturator nerve)
Adductor brevis
- origin
- inferior pubic ramus
- insertion
- proximal 1/3 of medial lip of linea aspera
- concentric action
- accelerates hip adduction
- accelerates hip flexion
- accelerates hip external rotation
- eccentric action
- decelerates hip abduction
- decelerates hip extension
- decelerates hip internal rotation
- isometric action
- stabilizes LPHC (produces APT)
- innervation
- obturator nerve
Adductor longus
- origin
- inferior pubic ramus
- insertion
- middle 1/3 of medial lip of linea aspera
- concentric action
- accelerates hip adduction
- accelerates hip flexion
- accelerates hip external rotation
- eccentric action
- decelerates hip abduction
- decelerates hip extension
- decelerates hip internal rotation
- isometric action
- stabilizes LPHC (produces APT)
- innervation
- obturator nerve
