Adductor Complex

Mnemonic: PBLMG "Peanut Butter Leaves Me Gassy"

Pectineus
Brevis
Longus
Magnus
Gracilis

This mnemonic describes the adductor complex from proximal to distal (mostly).

Pectineus
  • origin
    • pectineal line on superior pubic ramus
  • insertion
    • from lesser trochanter to pectineal line of medial lip of linea aspera
  • concentric action
    • accelerates hip adduction
    • accelerates hip flexion
    • accelerates hip external rotation
  • eccentric action
    • decelerates hip abduction
    • decelerates hip extension
    • decelerates hip internal rotation
  • isometric action
    • stabilizes LPHC (produces APT)
  • innervation
    • femoral nerve (sometimes obturator nerve)

Adductor brevis
  • origin
    • inferior pubic ramus
  • insertion
    • proximal 1/3 of medial lip of linea aspera
  • concentric action
    • accelerates hip adduction
    • accelerates hip flexion
    • accelerates hip external rotation
  • eccentric action
    • decelerates hip abduction
    • decelerates hip extension
    • decelerates hip internal rotation
  • isometric action
    • stabilizes LPHC (produces APT)
  • innervation
    • obturator nerve

Adductor longus
  • origin
    • inferior pubic ramus
  • insertion
    • middle 1/3 of medial lip of linea aspera
  • concentric action
    • accelerates hip adduction
    • accelerates hip flexion
    • accelerates hip external rotation
  • eccentric action
    • decelerates hip abduction
    • decelerates hip extension
    • decelerates hip internal rotation
  • isometric action
    • stabilizes LPHC (produces APT)
  • innervation
    • obturator nerve
